About

Klein Technique™ is a process through which the body is analyzed and understood to improve and to further movement potential. It is intellectual in that it uses anatomical realities. It is corporeal in that we strive for an internal knowing, an understanding which is integrated into the body. It is a movement education and re-education, that can be an underpinning for all movement styles, improvisations, athletics, and for the general health of the body in everyday movement. It is a technique that honors the individual. Klein Technique™ works at the level of the bones, to align the bones using the muscles of deep postural support: the psoas, the hamstrings, the external rotators, and the pelvic floor. We don't work to exercise these muscles but rather to wake them up, to become conscious of their role in the support and movement of the body. We work for the body to become elastic, responsive, and open to choices and expression. Although Klein Technique™ was developed by a dancer for dancers, it is a technique that works for everybody, from the vertuostic dancer to the non-dancer. When the bones are aligned we become connected, we become powerful and we become strong. The body becomes efficient and alive, and injuries often heal.

Teacher:

Amy Pender is a Norwegian dance artist and Klein Technique™ teacher based in Drøbak and Oslo (Norway).
She has a BA of Modern Theatre dance at Amsterdam University of the Arts, and has since her graduation in 2014, been working around Europe with choreographers and companies such as Bodytalk (DE), David Zambrano (BE), Spitfire dance company (CZ), Monica Münoz (IR), Martijn Joling (NO) and Hagit Yakira (NO).
Since she started practising Klein Technique™ in 2013, the work has grown to be a large part of her practice as a dance artist.

After several years of living in Berlin and having the chance to practice the work with teacher Hanna Hegescheidt on an almost daily basis, she in 2019, decided to move back to Norway and was at the same time accepted as a student of the Klein Technique™ Teacher Cerification Programme. After 4 years in the programme led by Susan Klein, she graduated as Norway´s first teacher of the work in June 2023.

"Klein Technique™ is a process of discovery and rediscovery. It is ongoing and continual. It requires constant blending of theoretical information and experiential practice. It requires time. like nature it is ordered and infinite in its discovery."

— Susan Klein
